Introduction

Today was the very first introductory session we had with the staff, co-ordinators and participants in this programme. It was really heartening to learn about the fascinating aspects of the programme and the various people and cultures that I will be exposed to in the coming weeks! I'm also very honoured to be given an opportunity to promote my home university and I truly feel proud to fly the flag of NUS. The staff, particularly Jack, and the volunteer students, were amiable and approachable. It was comforting to watch them put in their utmost effort in helping us to settle and adapt to the new environment.

The tour of National Taiwan Museum was an eye-opener. It enabled me to appreciate and familiarize myself with the heritage and livelihood of the nation's past. Possibly the only regret of the day was the inability to visit Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall due to inclement weather.

At night, we had some free time for ourselves, which was spent on roaming the streets and night markets. It is enlightening to discover the vibrancy of the streets of Taipei, bustling with activity. The variety and price of food here is beyond favourable!!!

I am totally looking forward to what is in store for me this summer programme. Hope that it will be a fruitful experience enriched with lasting memories!

Benjamin

Had a tired but fulfilling day!

Well, I shall start the ball rolling.

As I am writing this post, the security guard (the technician had knocked off) just turned off the water supply due to leaking pipe from the heater in the bathroom, and that means I will not have water for my wash ups the next morning :S. But well, let's hope the the pipe will be fixed by tomorrow.

Nonetheless, I enjoyed the self introduction made by fellow BACT mates this afternoon 'cos it was really interesting and eye-opening to see what's going on in the other universities. The breakfast was nice, but I couldn't finish them all; it was too much for my stomach to handle, haha. It was such a pity that we couldn't visit C.K.S memorial hall due to the heavy rain but I am sure more interesting programs await for us in the next few days! Good night all!

Hello guys

Finally you landed safe and be in Formosa-Taiwan now and we welcome you to be part of the members of the 2013 Biodiversity, Agriculture and Culture of Taiwan Summer Program.

As you have already known during the orientation, you are asked to keep diary during the program using this blog and your performance will be partly judged and assessed by the journal you write here. It does not mean if you can not write anything bad or inappropriate about the life or the program here, instead, we will check and see if you write journals about your daily life. Also, you also share your ideas and thoughts to other students.

However, do not treat this as assignment but an interesting part of recording your daily while you are in Taiwan. As you may know, we will be having several lectures and field trips and will be spending 2 weeks in Taipei while the other 2 weeks in other counties and cities. By simply creating a new blog for your own and post new articles every other day, you will have established your journals.

Memory passes easily and we hope this blog can be seen as a platform where each of you can share your ideas and opinions about the program and everything for the next days.

At last, we hope you enjoy the program, the food, the place and get to know the people here and bring good memory back to your home and share your experience with your family and friends! :-)

Best
Jack Hsu
